     To All Parents:

The safety of your child and all children in our school as well as the safety of the school staff and support personnel is very important to us.  In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by having drills designed to exercise our procedures.

We will be conducting a lockdown and other emergency drills throughout the spring as required.  This letter is to help you understand the importance of emergency drills.

The students and staff typically practice several different types of drills every year.  The most commonly known drill is a “Fire Drill”.

During a “Lockdown” we secure the school building and safely shelter all students, staff and visitors inside the building.  The purpose of this drill is to keep students safe from any dangers inside or outside the building that are an immediate threat.  Only school administration or emergency responders can remove students at this time.  When possible local law enforcement will be involved in these drills.  In light of national concern over school safety, Sheriff Farber has requested we involve his officers this spring.  During drills visitors are not allowed in or out of the building until we have concluded.

Please remember that these safety practice drills are done to help maintain our school as a safe place to learn and work.

If you have any questions regarding this drill or other safety concerns, please contact my office.  The telephone number is 315-858-0729.
