Superintendent's Letter on School Day: Nov. 13

 November 13, 2020

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

Over the past two weeks I have held informational meetings with the faculty, bus drivers, Board of Education and parents regarding our current continuity of learning plan.  In accordance with state guidelines, and Owen D. Young Central School’s Reopening Plan these meetings are necessary before making changes.

As a result of the feedback from these meetings we will be proceeding with the expansion of our instructional day by one hour.  Beginning Monday, November 30th the school will dismiss students at 12:45 for parent pick up and 12:50 for students riding buses.  The school day’s start time will remain the same.   Lunches will still be provided as students leave and snacks will be allowed during the instructional periods.

This change will allow us to provide about 270 minutes of instruction daily limiting the amount of instructional work required to be completed at home by an average of one hour.

This new school day will be implemented for both our in-person and virtual learning plans.  Students while virtual will follow the same schedule as they do while in-person.  If you have any questions please email me at bfahey@odycsd.org or call at 315-858-0729.

Your continued participation and input is encouraged as we move forward continually adjusting our instructional approach to meet our student’s needs within the State’s guidelines for in-person instruction.

Sincerely,

Brennan M. Fahey
Superintendent
