ODY students get virtual visit from author

On June 10th students from Kindergarten-6th grade took part in a virtual author visit with Daniel Jude Miller. There were three different presentations Everybody Wake Up! for Kindergarten and 1st grade Halloween Boy for 2nd and 3rd Grade, and Monsters for 4th, 5th and 6th grade.

Ms. Wilber arranged for the author visit as an unique opportunity to allow students to interact and learn more about what it takes to become an author/illustrator. The program was funded by Arts-in-Education.  Every student was given a poster and one of Daniel’s hand signed books to enjoy!

Daniel shared his personal experiences about his role as an author/illustrator. He walked students through the process of illustration beginning with his black sharpie drawings and later the coloration and special effects. He answered many questions students had including how much time it takes to create a book. Daniel explained that writing a story can take him several months while the illustrations can take up to a year.
