The Owen D. Young CSD is seeking a community member to be part of a special committee to discuss the ongoing relationship between the athletic departments at Richfield Springs and ODY and combined sports teams between the two districts.
Appointed members of the committee will look at ways to ensure both Richfield Springs and ODY are represented equitably and that each school’s imprint is felt. Topics to be discussed include the names of combined teams and a potential change in uniform colors for combined teams. It is important for our community to know that ODY’s school colors and Wildcat logo for everything outside of combined athletics will remain the same.
Both schools will be equally represented on the committee, with both Athletic Directors participating and an equal number of faculty members, students and community members from both communities.
The first committee meeting will be held around February 9 (pending committee members’ schedules). It is expected that the committee’s work will take about one month to complete, before recommendations are presented to each of the district’s Boards of Education for approval at their respective March meetings.
