Evan H. Davis, the son of Candise and Andrew Davis, has been named Valedictorian of the ODY’s class of 2023. This fall, he plans to study criminal justice at Alfred University, where he was named an Alfred University Scholar. He was also the recipient of a Clark Scholarship.

Evan was very involved with clubs and extracurricular activities during his time at ODY. He was the Editor in Chief of the yearbook, president of both Student Council and his class, and a member of Drama Club, National Honor Society, and Science Club. He also participated in NYSSMA competitions and was a member of the trap shooting team.

Evan stays busy outside of school as well, with a part-time job as a cashier for a local convenience store. He also volunteers for state park trail cleanup, and assists with fundraising through Cherry Valley Zen Do Kai to benefit his fellow community members.

When asked what he would miss most about ODY, Evan said “I will miss the closeness between classmates. Everyone knows everyone.” His favorite class at ODY was public speaking. “Improv was extremely fun and it was a great learning experience.”

Steven S. Teleki, the son of Nandor and Cindy Teleki, has been named Salutatorian for the 2023 graduating class at Owen D. Young Central School. This fall, he plans to attend SUNY Polytechnic Institute to study computer science.

While at ODY, Steven was active in many extracurricular activities including Student Council, National Honor Society, CFES and Student Government. He received several awards and scholarships this year, including the Clark Scholarship, Excelsior Scholarship, Dean Scholarship and an award from the U.S. Air Force. Outside of the classroom, Steven volunteers with different initiatives to help local senior citizens.

Steven said he will miss many things about his Owen D.Young community after graduating. “I will miss my class, the other students, the teachers, and the area. ODY is special because everyone is very close to one another,”

His favorite classes at ODY included algebra 2, energy and agricultural mechanics with Mr. Dando, pre-calculus and P.E. When asked what his advice would be to younger students, Steven said “Be respectful to everybody and work hard during your high school education. In 9th,10th , and 11th grades, you should really be working hard. By your senior year, you can be more laid back but still make sure you are filling out all of your paperwork for college.”
