Mrs. Christine Tucker will have a new role at the Owen D. Young School District for the 2023-24 school year. She will be leaving the classroom and has been elevated to the Curriculum Coordinator/Assistant Principal. She replaces Mr. Corey Pike, who left the district this summer to take a new position as principal with Herkimer BOCES.

Mrs. Tucker has been at ODY since 2014. She started as a sixth grade teacher and during her tenure, has worked with multiple grade levels as a special education teacher and co-teacher. She also taught Family and Consumer Science and was an Academic Coach.

At ODY, Mrs. Tucker is the advisor for the class of 2025, and co-adviser for both the Learn and Serve Green Team and CFES. She lives in Marcy, NY with her husband Dan, their two daughters Jianna and Myla, one cat named Tino and one dog named Oakley.

When asked what makes ODY such a special district, Mrs. Tucker said, “One of the best parts about ODY is the family feel. I appreciate that I know all of the staff members and students and that I get to see the children grow each year.”

Previous to joining ODY, Mrs. Tucker worked at the Holland Patent School District for five years. She was a substitute teacher in the Whitesboro School District as well as the Oneida School District while she was attending college.

She earned a B.S. in psychology with a concentration in general and special education from LeMoyne College. She obtained her Masters in Literacy through SUNY Cortland and attended the Educational Leadership Academy at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She attended the Whitesboro School District from grades K-8 and then again for her senior year. In between, she attended high school in Leicester, MA for three years.

Did you know that Mrs. Tucker is somewhat of a track star? “At least I would like to think so,” she said. “I had a couple track records back in my day!,” Mrs. Tucker added.

Mrs. Tucker was asked to give advice to the students at ODY. She said:  “ Enjoy being a kid. Time goes by quickly, so get outside, play with your friends, read a book, and find the joy in learning every day. Know that you have a support system here to help and cheer you on.”
