ODY science teacher Jeff Rupp is serving as the advisor for the district’s new Drone Club. Members were recently taught how to use Rocket Drones by members of the local NERIC, so that they can participate in a racing league to compete against other teams in-person, or virtually against any team in the country! The racing league flies small 35g high-performance drones around a race course in the gymnasium. Students wear virtual reality goggles that allow them to see what the drone sees as they navigate the course through inflatable timing gates. ODY is fielding the first local racing team in our region, and will compete this year as the “ODY AeroCats!”
