Great news for ODY from the New York State 100th Future Farmers of America (FFA) Convention this week in Syracuse. High school senior Maxwell Pullis earned an award for placing in the top 3 for the Discussion Meet competition, which tests the ability of FFA members in grades 10-12 to analyze agricultural issues and decide on solutions that best meet their needs. This activity helps build basic discussion skills, develop a strong understanding of important agricultural issues and explore how groups can pool knowledge to reach consensus and solve problems.
First-year ODY agriculture/technology teacher and FFA advisor Mckensey Periard received the Golden Owl Award, which recognizes agricultural educators who dedicate countless hours and often their own resources to enrich their students' lives.
Several ODY students attended the state’s FFA convention joining about 2,000 of their peers at the New York State Fairgrounds along with advisors and special guests from across the Empire State to learn from inspiring speakers, fellow FFA students and agricultural professionals.
In addition to a mix of Career and Leadership Development events, students had opportunities to expand their knowledge during workshops and tours exploring different fields in the agriculture industry and networking with agricultural business professionals and colleges during the Career Engagement Expo.
Congratulations Maxwell and Miss Periard on your achievements!
